A bad outing by Mike Pelfrey is not the end of the world. Maybe he got the “Shea Stadium in from of 46,000 on a Sunday afternoon” jitters. Mets still take 2 of 3 from Houston with Carlos Delgado starting to get hot.

It’s the All-Star Break first half season review.
First things first. Mets get a split with the Marlins in a four game series that includes the end (oh lord I hope) of Jose Lima’s stints with the Mets and the successful debut of Mets top pitching prospect Mike Pelfrey.
On to the 1st half recap. I’m not going to rate the Mets since I think the team and players deserve an A for having the best record in the National League and a 12 game lead in the division.

Thank heavens the Mets won the second game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Two in a row to the worst team in the NL would have been too much to bear.
Congrats to David Wright, Jose Reyes, Paul Lo Duca, Carlos Beltran, Pedro Martinez and Tom Glavine for
Allow me to rant about the Mets’ dismal performance over the last two weeks. I feel like the Met pitchers need to be more aggresive with opposing hitters. Too much nibbling and too much getting beat while ahead in the count. On top of that you have injuries, runner LOB, mental mistakes and Willie’s penchant for letting a pitcher go one (or two) batters too many. Pick your pet peeve and feel free to comment. Oh, and Jose Lima might start Friday night. Doh!
Did I forget to mention that the Mets still have a 10.5 game lead?

July 1st, 2006 — Amazin Moments
The Mets have their first 3 and 4 game losing streak of the year, getting swept by the Red Sox and then dropping the first game of the Yankees series. The team was suffering from anemic bats, poor fielding, nagging injuries and maybe the dog days of summer too. They certainly had their chance against the Yanks on Friday night with Orlando Hernandez going seven strong despite a rain delay. The Mets got nothing going against Mike Mussina or the Yankees bullpen.
Nice win on Saturday with the Mets roughing up the old unit. Reyes and Wright just keep paying dividends along with surprising contributions by Paul LoDuca and Ramon Castro. Trachsel is scary but gets out of the jams to win his seventh game. Wagner finishes but both Wagner and Trachsel may be dealing with lower extremity injuries.
Eight games against Pittsburgh and the 2nd place (for now anyway) Florida Marlins before the All Star break. Hopefully Nady, LoDuca, Delgado and others nagging with injuries can get some rest and recover for a strong second half of the season.
Brian from Rockland County phones in a couple of comments. Plus some comments off of the blog.
Take a moment to join the map and do me the favor of nominating this podcast for a Podcast Award under the Sports category.
Thanks in advance and Lets Go Mets!
